Pharmacokinetical Profiles of Sulfanilamid Compare to Sulfamethizole in Rat (Perbandingan Profil Farmakokinetik Sulfanilamid dan Sulfametizol pada Tikus)
The present work was aimed to compare the pharmacokinetic profiles of sulfanilamide and its derivative sulfamethizole in the rat. Female Wistar rats were divided into two equal groups randomly, and each was injected with sulfanilamide or sulfamethizole (40 mg/kg: ip). The sulfonamide blood concentrations were monitored colorimetrically employing a Bratton-Marshall assay method. The result showed that the addition of a thiadiazolyl group to sulfanilamide molecule has altered significantly the pharmacokinetic profile of the compound (p less than 0.05), namely, the absorption and elimination half-lives, area under blood concentration-time curve, mean residence time, steady-state volume of distribution, and the time to achieve maximum concentration in blood for sulfanilamide were higher than those for sulfamethizole.
