An Explorative Study of the Oxytocin Hormone in the Thymus of the Albino Rats (Rattus norvegicus) : Using Immunoperoxidase Method (Studi Eksploratif Hormon Oksitosin pada Tikus-tikus Putih Rattus norvegicus : Dengan Menggunakan Metode Imunoperoksidase)
The objective of this descriptive-explorative study was to explore whether the oxytocin hormone can be identified in the thymus by using immunoperoxidase staining methods and primary antibody neurophysin. Ten adult rats (Rattus norvegicus), either male or female of Lembaga Makanan Rakyat strain, weighing between 200-250 g were used in this study. All rats, without any treatment were killed by decapitation and microscopic slides of the thymus were stained by immunoperoxidase staining methods, using 1 percent Rabbit anti-human neurophysin in 3 percent normal horse serum solution (NHS) as a primary antibody and Labelled Strept-Avidin-Biotin kits. The results revealed that only one out of 10 albino rats has possitive intracellular (brown) reaction in their thymus. The existence of this positive reaction is limitted only in a small area of the gland.
