Physicochemical Influence of Some Anthistamines to their Transport to Pass through the Cellophane Membrane (Pengaruh Sifat Fisikokimia beberapa Antihistamina terhadap Proses Transpornya Melewati Membran Selofan)
Anthistamines such as CTM, diphenhydramine HCI, promethazine HCI and astemizol have different physicochemical properties due to the differences in their chemical structures. These physicochemical properties would affect their transport behavior through cellophane membrane. This study would like to investigate the effect of physicochemical properties of the antihistamines on their transport through cellophane. The study was carried out by using diffusion cell of modified Goldberg and higuchi model. Results showed that the transport of anthistamines used in this study followed zero order kinetics. Partition coefficients of anthistamines used seem to play a major role in their transport through cellophane membrane and the optimal value of the logarithm of the partition coefficient of anthistamines giving on optimal transport was about 2.0.
