The Viscosity of the Vaseline Ointment Base Due to Addition of Various Amount of Propylene Glycol (Korelasi Jumlah Propilen Glikol dalam Basis dan Viskositas Basis Salep Vaselin)

Viscosity of ointment base may be altered by addition of viscous substances. The viscosity alteration pattern of the viscousity of the vaseline ointment base due to addition of various amount of propylene glycol has been studied, and the viscousity of vaseline ointment base containing various propylene glycol concentration have been determined by using Brookfield VT 04 viscometer. Results showed that the viscousity of the bases decreased exponentially or to follow first order kinetics upon addition of propylene glycol with the value of decrease viscousity constant was 7.4x10-2percent-1. To obtain stable veseline propylene glycol base, propylene glycol added to vaseline should not exceed 10 percent.
