The literature related to the effects of tobacco smoking on the oral cavity is reviewed. In this paper, the review is restricted only to the effects of smoking on oral mucosa, oral bacteria, oral hygiene and periodontium. Cardiovascular epidemilogic study with stratified random sampling was carried-out at Kampak, a barren mountaneus area at the southern part of east Java to research smoking prevalence.
