Toxoplasmosis on Pregnant Women in Mataram Hospital (Infeksi Toksoplasma pada Ibu-ibu Hamil di RSU Mataram)
Objective: To identify the IgM frequent of anti-toxoplasma in pregnant women, and to understand the relationship between the positive IgG or IgM of anti-toxoplasma and the abortion, still birth, and congenital anomalies in the newborns. Subjects, patients, Participants: Five hundred and eighty eight pregnant women were examined at Mataram General Hospital from April, 1994 to December 1994. Results: of 5,888 pregnancies, 225 women were found to have positive anti-toxoplasma IgG (38.3 percent), and 12 women were found to have positive anti-toxoplasma IgM. The pregnant women with positive IgG were distributed in all the age groups, while those with positive IgM were found among young pregnant women of less than 35 years. The pregnant women with positive anti-toxoplasma IgM, who were quite probably suffering from acute toxoplasma IgM, who were quite probably sufffering from acute toxoplasma infection, did not show any clinical symptoms (asymptomic) It was found that the frequency of anti-toxoplasma IgG was higher in the pregnant women undergoing abortion (50 percent), still birth (65.5 percent), and congenital anomalies (60 percent) than in those who have not undergone abortion (39.5 percent), and congenital anomalies (40.2 percent). However, statistical analysis (chi square p more than 0.05) did not reveal any significant difference. Conlusions: A routine serologic screening of toxoplasma at the time of prenatal examination is necessary to be in Mataram General Hospital.
