Objective: To discuss the influences of systemic lupus erythematosus on pregnancy, and vice versa the infuence of pregnancy on systemic lupus erythematosus. Design/data identification: Literature study. Results: Systemic lupus erythematosus is a collagen disease which most frequently jeopardizes pregnancy; and could be regarded to be high-risk because it may result in complications in obstetric spheres, such as spontaneous abortion, preeclampsia-eclampsia prematurity retarded fetus growth, and syndrome of lupus erythematosus in the new born. On the other hand, the patients with lupus erythematosus may effect the course of the disease as a result of the increased risk for exacerbation. Conclusions: The infertility rate of LES patients was not different from the rate of fertility of the population in general. A general management and cooperation among multi-disciplinary fields, particularly in the fieds of obstetrics, hematology, allergy-immunology of internal disease and perinatology is necessary in dealing with pregnancy in LES patients.
