Diagnostic Value of PAP-TB Test in Extra-Pulmonary Tuberculosis (Nilai Diagnostik Uji PAP-TB pada Tuberkulosis di Luar Paru)

A laboratory study to evaluate the diagnostic value of PAP-TB test for the diagnosis of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB) was carried out on 48 patients with extrapulmonary TB and 53 non-Tb patients attending the TB Centre in Malang, several hospitals and other treatment centres in during the period of 1989 until 1992. Histopathological test was used to confirm the diagnosis of extrapulmonary TB in this study. PAP-TB tests (Handojo's method) were performed on the sera of the above mentioned patients. The cut-off titre of the PAP-TB test used in this study is related to a serum dilution of 1 : 5000. The result of this study showed that for the diagnosis of extrapulmonary TB, the PAP-TB test has a as high as 87.5 percent, a diagnostic sensitivity as high as 87.5 percent, a diagnostic specificity as high as 90.6 percent, a diagnostic efficiency as high as 89.1 percent, a diagnostic positive redictive value as high as 89.4 percent and a negative predictive value as high as 88.9 percent. From the analysis on data obtained in this study, it can be concluded that the PAP-TB test is a reliable diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of extrapulmonary TB with high diagnostic value based on the criterion of Handojo.
