The Examination of Soil, Dust, Digital Smear and Nail Dirt through Ascaris lumbricoides Eggs (Pemeriksaan Tanah, Debu, Usap Jari dan Kotoran Kuku terhadap Telur Ascaris lumbricoides)
The severity of fecal contamination is determined by communal behaviour. Fecal contamination in soil can be measured by the presence of Ascaris lumbricoides eggs in the soil. The soil quality as measured by the presence of the eggs can be used to evaluate the successfulness of health education, and as an input for the helminthiasis erradication program. The eggs of Ascaris lumbrioides can be utilized as an indicator of fecal contamination due to the high prevalence of ascariasis in the community. The results of studies on the presence of Ascaris lumbricoides in samples taken from the soil, dust, digital smear, and nail dirt was reviewed. The method of collection and examination was also discussed. Optimum results can be achieved by combining the comphrehensive approach - which encompasses hygiene, erradiation of helminthiasis, subsidized school meals - which encompasses hygiene, erradication of helminthiasis, subsidized school meals - with examination of smears, nail dirt, and health education. Standar sample examination can be obtained by noting the amount and weight of each sample, the method of examination, and the criteria of non-viable eggs.
