The Comparative Study of Midazolam and Phenobarbital as a Premedication in Direct Laryngoscopy (Uji Banding Premedikasi Midazolam dan Fenobarbital pada Laringoskopi Direk)
Direct laryngoscopy was performed on 60 patients aged between 20-40 years old which were categorized as healthy (ASA PS1) and with mild to moderate systemic problems (PS II). The patients were placed into case and control groups. The first group was given 0.1 mg/kg BW midazolam as premedication with 0.01 mg/kg BW/ atrophine sulphate im. Fifty minutes later the pharynx was sprayed with xylocaine, maximal 20 times for a patient of 70 kgs. Laryngoscopy was performed 10 minutes later. During the examination, the length of consumed time was noted, the attending physician was asked about the degree of conciousness, anaesthesia, anxiety, relaxation, and the amount of cooperation given. After examination, the presence of amnesia, tolerance and local reaction was studied. The results showed that the amnesia and cooperation in the group with midazolam was significantly greater than those with phenobarbital. Tolerance and local reaction did not differ in both groups.
