Coronary Heart Disease in Indonesia, Result of Communities Intervention on MONICA Population, Jakarta 1988-1993 (Penyakit Jantung Koroner di Indonesia, Naik atau Turun ? Hasil Intervensi Komunitas pada Populasi MONICA-Jakarta 1988-1993)
Following the WHO-MONICA protocol, in 1988 a community survey of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) has been done in 3 sub-districts of metropolitan Jakarta, after 5 years intervention in the form of health education in CHD-risk factors control, a second survey has been completed in 1993. Comparison of results of the first and the second surveys. nl. prevalence of hipertension (14.9 percent vs 49.6 percent) and BMI more than 30 kg/square meter (4.9 percent vs 7.6 percent) an average 1.9 percent increase in risk factors is observed (p=0.059). Although not statistically significant yet, however, in spite of the serious efforts, the authors regard the results as not satisfactory, urging them to work harder in the second intervention phase. More coordination and cooperation between the goverment medical service, the Indonesia Heart Foundation and other committed NGO's will be implemented. Hopefully in spite of the very difficult risk to accomplish in a big fast growing city, the second community intervention will give a better result in the third survey in 1998.
