Truck Driver as a Potencial Carrier on HIV : A Case Study (Potensi Penularan HIV melalui Supir Truk : Studi Kasus Rute Surabaya-Denpasar)
To indentify whether truck drivers could pontentially be a HIV carrier, a study was done during July-August 1995 in Denpasar. This was a qualitative study which facus group discusion and indepth interview to truck drivers in two loading facilities. The study found that on the average a truck drivers conducted trips a mount with one trip took about 3-5 days. Usually they stop in several places the Surabaya-Denpasar route and look for prostitution. Most of them do not use condom. Some of them even frequently refuse sugestion to use it. STD rate were high and considered only as small better than knowledge toward HIV was limited and of them did not know that condom could prevent HIV infection. It is concluded that truck drivers could potentially be a HIV carrier in Indonesia.
