Avicel PH 102, Starch 1500, Supertab or Their Mixture
There are some excipients of direct compression tablet available in the market. Those excipients may differently influence the physical properties of the tablets. Tetracycline HCl is usually used in capsule dosage form to treat infection as an antibiotic. It may be caused by the lack of the information of the tablet formulation and its stability. Therefore, tetracycline HCl was chosen as the drug model and for the beginning ste, the formulation of the tetracycline HCl direct compression tablet need to be investigated. The aim of the study is to investigate the ability of Avicel PH 102, Starch 1500, Super Tab or their mixtures as the binder and disintegrant of tetracycline HCl direct compression tablet, for getting the tablet formulation that fulfill the requirements. The result showed that Avicel PH 102 or Starch 1500 alone in 33.3 percent up to 50 percent of tablet weight were able to produce tetracycline HCl direct compression tablets that fulfilled the tablet requirements. Starch 1500 alone or combined with Avicel PH 102 or Super Tab prolonged the tablet disintegration time. While Super Tab alone or combined with Avicel PH 102 or Starch 1500 yielded a formulation that was difficult to be directly compressed into tablets.
