The Effect of Testosterone Enanthate in the Function and Production of Spermatozoa : Its Prospect as a Male Contraceptive Agents (Efek Testosteron Enantat pada Fungsi dan Produksi Spermatozoa : Prospeknya sebagai Kontrasepsi Pria)
A study was done to evaluate the effect of testosterone enanthate (TE) in function and production of spermatozoa. This study was conducted in healthy male with normal spermatozoa count. Twenty one volunteer was divided eandomly into three groups. The first group (A) received sesame oil, the second group (B) recieve 50 mg TE injection, while the third group (C) recieved 100, TE injection. Injection was done in weekly basis for 25 times. The study founded that the function and production of spermatozoa were decreased according dosage and lengthy of TE injection. The convert result was found on the C group. No sample in group A reached azoosprenia, while group B reached severe also azooprenia. All samples in group C reached azoospremia. The function and products of spermatozoa reducted to normal when the intervation was stopped. This study shows that TE, has a good prospect for a male contraceptive. However follows studies are needed to determine initial and insurance dosage as well as interval time.
