The Epidemiological Aspect of Hookworm Infection in Jagapati Village, Bali (Aspek Epidemiologi Infeksi Cacing Tambang pada Penduduk Dewasa Desa Jagapati, Bali)
A cross sectional study was conducted in Jagapati village, to assess the epidemiologi aspect of hookworm infection. Four hundred and fifty four people were selected randomly. The result shows that the prevalance of hookworm is high (86.1 percent). There is no significant diffrent between prevalence and intensity of infection in male and female. Prevalence Necator americanus is the highest, that is 98.2 percent, while Ancillostoma duodinale is only 1.2 percent. Most of the intensity of infection is light and it's was distributed unevenly. The intensity of infection related positively to age, sociobehavior, education and occupation. Some behavioral factors, such as defecation outside latrines, and not wearn footwear are related with the high of the prevalent and intensity. The transmission of the hookworm was occures mostly near houses. So, those who spent much time in the village such as aged people have the high risk to be infected.
