The Clinical Trial of the Efficacy of Ceftazidime against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in Infection on Open Fracture (Efektivitas Ceftazidime terhadap Kuman Pseudomonas aeruginosa pada Infeksi Pasca Patah Tulang Terbuka)
Chronic osteomyelitis is a difficult orthopaedic problem to be treated especcially if the causative organism is gram negative, such like Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Clinical trial of ceftazidime to treat chronic osteomyelitis due to P. aeruginosa had been performed in 22 patients from January 1993 to April 1993. All patients were with history to open fracture grade IIIA and IIIB (Gustilo-Anderson) whom already underwent, instabilization and followed by standard antibiotics. The age ranged between 13 to 60 years old. The administration of ceftazidime 2 x 2 gram i.v for two weeks showed a good gramulated wound, and no bacterial growth on cultures. The sensitivity test to P. aeruginosa were : Ceftazidime 100 percent sensitif, Garamycin 76 percent resistant, Sulbenicillin 72 percent resistant, Cefotaxin 45 percent resistant, and Netylimycin 43 percent resistant.
