The Factors Influnecing the Development of Intestinal Perforation and Bleeding in Thypoid Fever (Beberapa Faktor yang Berpengaruh terhadap Perdarahan Perforasi Usus pada Demam Tifoid)

Typhoid fever is an intestinal infectious diseases which still widely encountered in Indonesia. The highest fatality of the diseases was caused by complications, such as septic shock, intestinal bleeding, intestinal perforation or other infections. To decrease the mortality rate, some measures have been carried out, e.g. ; seeking more potent anti typhoid drugs, better operation techniques, correction of fluid, electrolyte, acid-base imbalance, management of bleeding etc. Those measures were usually carried out after the development of complications. Generally, not much has been done to find of seek the factors which could have been of importance in the development of intestinal bleeding and/or perforation. In view of those facts, the author proposes to formulate the problem as follows. 'What factors are supposed to be importance in the development of intestinal perforation and bleeding in patients with typhoid fever'. The general aims of this study are to discover the factors which might influence the development of intestinal perforation and bleeding in thypoid fever patients. The study design was the case control. The population studied were all thypoid fever patients who were hospitalized in Dr. Kariadi Hospital and some other hospital in Semarang. Diagnosis based on clinical manifestation and the widal serologic test. The sample size was determined in accordance to case control studies. Data were analyzed using multivariate method. Result of this study was; the highest odd ratio value was found for serum albumin levels less than 2.50 gr percent, followed consegutively by drug adequacy, duration of fever, deverity of illness, early solid food, mobilisation. Analyzed result of logistic regression programme was : variables considered to be influential against the dependent variable were serum albumin levels, drug adequacy and severity of illness.
