Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis and Anthropometry on Obesity Group Respondence at Internal Medicine Clinic Dr. Kariadi Hospital, Semarang During July-December 1994 (Hasil Pengukuran 'Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis' dan Antropometrik pada Sekelompok Responden Obesitas di Poliklinik Penyakit Dalam RSUP Dr. Kariadi/ FK UNDIP Semarang Juli - Desember 1994)
Obesity is a state of fat overdiposition in the body. There are several methods of measuring body fat either directly or indirectly by Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) using 'BODYSTAT 1500' and anthoropometrically (Body Mass Index/BMI, Relative Body Weight/RBW, triceps subcutaneus fat with skin fold calipers/SC). Objective: to study the result of BIA and antropometric measurements in obese among patients in internal Medicine clinic Dr. Kariadi Hospital. Method and material: obese patients in Internal Medicine clinic Dr. Kariadi Hospital measured by BIA (male: body fat more than 25 percent of body weight, female: body fat more than 30 percent body weight) on period of July - December 1994 were observerd to obtain the BMI, RBW, SC measurement. Obesity was defines as BMI more than 30, RBW more than 120 percent, SC of male more than 15 mm, of female more than 25 mm. Results: 28 female and 12 male cases participated in this study. Result of BIA and anthropometric measurement was stated in mean and standard deviation as follows: fat (37.43 plus/minus 7.42), MBI (33.56 plus/minus 6.9) while male group: fat (28.5 plus/minus 2.61), BMI (34.14 plus/minus 4.09), RBW (151.44 plus/minus 36.54), SC (32 plus/minus 6.9) while male group: fat (28.5 plus/minus 2.61), BMI (34.14 plus/minus 4.09), RBW (142.39 plus/minus 18.08), SC (29.16 plus/minus 8.65). All cases had been studied were obese proved by BIA and anthropometric measurement showed respectively as follows: a) BMI 77.5 percent of total cases, 83.34 percent of males, 75 percent of females. B0 RBW 92.5 percent of total cases, 89.3 percent of females, 100 percent of males. c) SC 82.5 percent of total cases, 78.5 percent of females, 91.6 percent of males. Conclusion: BIA and anthropometric measurement give the different result by means of some obese proved by BIA belong to non obese by anthoropometrically methods.
