Anopheles Mosquito Fauna in the Malaria Endemic Area in Sekotong Subdistrict, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia
Sekotong subdistrict, West Lombok regency, West Nusa Tenggara province was known as malaria endemic area. In this case Anopheles mosquito which act as the vector showed very important factors in the transmission and effort of control of the disease. The entomological survey was done in the three subvillages : Sayong, Longlongan and Labuhan Poh of Sekotong subdistrict by identification of breeding places of Anopheles mosquiture and capture of mosquito larvae by using dipper. Beside that, adult mosquito capture was done by using out door human bait. From the result of the survey in August 1994 which was dry season could be known the kinds of breeding places and species of Anopheles mosquito. The kinds of breeding places in Sayong subvillage were fishpond, ricefield, ditch and fresh water pond; in above Longlongan subvillage (coastal area) were ditch, ricefield and lagoon, and in Labuhan Poh subvillage were mangrove, laggoon, fishpond, ditch, water collection, brackish water river and fresh water river. The kinds of larval mosquito species which were found in Sayong subvillage were An.subpictus, An.sundaicus, A.barirostris, An. aconitus and An. vagus; in above Longlongan subvillage (hilly area) were An.barbirostris, and An.vagus; in below Longlongan subvillage (coastal area) were An.barbirostris, An.minimus and An vagus; and in Labuhan Poh subvillage were An.subpictus, Ansundaicus, An.minimus and An. vagus. The results of adult mosquito capture by using out door human bait was only An.subpictus which bite human in Labuhan Poh subvillage. It was supposed that An.subpictus was the most probable vector of malaria.
