The Beclomethazone and Ketotifen Effects against Broncho Hyperactivity on Asthma Patient (Efek Beklometason Dipropionat dan Ketotifen terhadap Hipereaktivitas Bronkus pada Penderita Asma)
This study is to evaluate the effect of inhalation beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP) on bronchial hyperreactivity in asthmatic patient. To meet the aim of this study, the adult asthmatic patients are grouped randomly, and each consist of 20 patients. They are given either inhalation BDP 250 mcg or oral ketotifen 1 mg respectively twice a day as long 8 weeks. In the group of patients who are given BDP indicates that the value of PC 20 increases from 0.34 plus/minus 0.44mg/ml to 2.48 plus/minus 4.37 mg/ml (p less than 0.01), whereas the others who are given ketotifen the value of PC 20 show an increasement from 0.33 plus/minus 0.37 mg/ml to 0.76 plus/minus 0.81 mg/ml (p less than 0.01). If we analyze the above figures, the comparison between both two group is significant (p less than 0.05). Therefore, BDP is better than ketotifen. In BDP group the peak flow rate (PFR) value increase from 333.95 plus/minus 76.03 l/m to 376.70 plus/minus 62.85 l/m (p less than 0.05), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) from 2053 plus/minus 453.61 ml to 2218.5 plus/minus 471.01 ml (p less than 0.05) and the value of forced vital capacity (FVC) from 2899 plus/minus 845.34 ml to 3059.5 plus/minus 927.04 ml (p less than 0.05). Otherwise in ketotifen group the PFR indicates an increasement from 303.65 plus/minus 82.88 l/m to 339.15 plus/minus 79.85 l/m (p less than 0.05), the FEV1 from 1846.0 plus/minus 541.21 ml to 2062.5 plus/minus 474.29 ml (p less than 0.05) and FVC value from 2695.0 plus/minus 736.94 ml to 2910 plus/minus 630.94 ml (p more than 0.05). All patients, who are given ketotifen, only one person or five percent of them who suffers from side effect of sleepy feel. The conclusion is that the beclomethosone dipropionate and ketotifen can reduce the bronchial hyperreactivity very significantly, yet BDP is better significantly than ketotifen.
