Air Pollution Poisoning through the Lung Function : Longitudinal Research at Cement Industrial during 1984-1992 (Pengaruh Polusi Udara terhadap Fungsi Paru Penelitian Longitudinal di Pabrik Semen X 1984-1992)
The Indonesia's second longterm development plan emphasis on industrilization. It could be estimated that in the future, the prevalence of COPD in Indonesia, will be an upward tendency. Using Cohort Study Design, this study was conducted to evaluate the causal-relationship between air (dust) polution and lung function. Longitudinal changes in lung function in Cement Workers were followed for 8 years. The first examination in 1984 are considered baseline. A total of 311 respondence had normal lung function in the first measurement (1984) In 1992 was found 124 small airway, 12 slight obstructive and 4 severe obstructive disturbances. The onset of decline in lung function were closed to 4 years after the first examination. The last four years showed and increasing decline with time. There was no satistical difference in the incidence of lung function disturbance between smokers and nonsmokers. V25 and V50 are sensitive parameters to detect the initial disturbance of lung function.
