Knowledge, Attitude and Behaviour of People in Benefiting of Cipinang River and its Relation toward Their Health (Pengetahuan, Sikap dan Perilaku Penduduk dalam Memanfaatkan Air Sungai Cipinang dan Hubungannya dengan Kesehatan Penduduk)

The population of Cipinang river is continously worsen amid its function in supporting daily need of people living in the surrounding. It will surely influence the health condition of the people mentioned. A cross sectional study was conducted in 3 bank areas of Cipinang river : upstream (Cibubur village), dowstream (Cipinang village) and in-between area (Halim village). The purpose of this work is to depict health condition of the people in those areas in relation to their knowledge, attitude and behaviour in benefiting river water and to find out other factors which assumed hazarduous to their health. Households were taken as its population and sample was selected by systematic rondom sampling. The results show that the knowledge, attitude and behavior of the target people are quite good. They no longer use the river water for drinking, bathing and washing but a great portion of the respondence still throw away their liquid and solid wastes to the river and some of them use it for excreting. Morbidity rate is lower than the national figure. Halim village holds the highest followed by the downstream village of Cipinang and the up-stream village of Cibubur is the lowest. The diffrences of the morbidity rate is statistically significant. Disease pattern of the 3 target areas are relatively similar where the highest is upper respiratory infection followed by skin and other diseases. Of 8 factors assumed to have related toward the health of the people, it comes out that four of them are immutable and the other two are mutable factors. To enhance knowledge, attitude and behaviour of the people it is proposed to form sanitary health group dealing in a particular sanitary health post.
