Epidemiological Aspects of Fibricola Seoulensis (Beberapa Aspek Epidemiologi Fibricola Seoulensis)
Fibricola seoulensis is one of the Trematodes which caused public health problem among certain community in South Korea. F. seoulensis is widely distributed in South Korea whereas other Fibricola species are found in other countries. The characteristic of this worm is the body consists of forebody and hindbody, having two suckers, hermaphrodite and 1.5 mm x 0.7 mm in size. The first intermediate host is Hippeutis cantori and the second intermediate host is Rana nigromaculata and Natrix tigrina lateralis. The prevalence of metacercaria among R. nigromaculata is 94.1 percent and among N. tigrina lateralis is 88.4 percent. The metacercaria is commonly found in the gaster of the snake. During 1984-1986, 25 cases of fibricoliasis were encountered in South Korea. The cases are males of 20-28 years old with a history of consuming unproperly cooked frog meat or snake. No report of fibricoliasis was found in Indonesia. However a special attention should be given to people who has the habit of eating raw frog meat or snake.
