Amebiasis on Inpatients at RSUD Wamena during 1988-1990 (Amebiasis pada Penderita Rawat Inap RSUD Wamena dalam Tahun 1988-1990)
A retrospectif study has been done to inpatient in Wamena Hospital, during January 1988 - December 1990. Out of 2,160 inpatients, 235 were amebiasis (10.87 percent). From 235, 48.51 percent (114) of them were admidtted with amebiasis, while the rest were admitted with other diagnosis. Diagnosis for Amebiasis were latterly can formed after feces examination. The symptom were diarrhea (39.57 percent), fever (37.44 percent), diarrhea with mucous and blood (24.68 percent). Most of the patients were young adult, between 12-35 years of age (60.85 percent). Indigenus people were found in 79.57 percent of patient, most of them (86 percent) works is farmer. About 170 patients were treated with metronidazole 30 mg/bw/day, orally divided in 3 doses. The cysts in feces were eliminated only in 64 patients (37.64 percent) when they were discarged. Combination treatment of metronidazole and HCl emetic for 10 days gave better results, the cysts were eliminated in 62.50 percent of the patient. Out of total amebiasis petients, 84 (35.74 percent) were discharged with in cysts, and 128 patients (54.46 percent) were discharged still with cyst. As much as 22 patients (9.36 percent) were died. Ten of them were patients with severe dehidration.
