Correlation between Fasting Total Bile Acid Level and Liver Function Test on Chronic Liver Diseases Patients (Hubungan antara Kadar Asam Empedu Total Puasa dan Tes Faal Hati pada Penderita Penyakit Hati Kronis)
Increasing of nile acid plasma level can happen in parenchymal damage, extretional disfunction caused by intra/extrahepatic obstruction of biliary system, synthetic and metabolic disfunction of the liver. This investigation are intended to evaluate the evaluation of fasting total bile acid (FIBA) level in chronic liver disease and to analyze if there is a correlation between FIBA with conventional liver function tes (LFT) and cholesterol. Method of investigation was cross sectional study with statistical analysis using correlation test by Pearson's linear regression method. During period of 6 months since August, 1990 uptill January, 1991, investigation was performed upon 30 patients with chronic liver disease such as chronic persistence hepatitis, chronic active hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and fatty liver. FIBA was measured by using Enzymatic Colorimetric method. LFT that had examined were total bilrubin, albumin, SGOT, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase and cholesterol. Result of examination revealed that FIBA tend to increase in patients with liver cirrhosis, chronic active hepatitis, chronic persistence hepatitis and fatty liver groups consecutively. Statistically, there were significant positive correlation between FIBA with conventional LFT, consecutively in SGOT, SGPT and total bilrubin. There was negative correlation with cholesterol. In order to get better conclusion, this investigation should be continued especially in evaluation of bile level in fasting and 2 hour postprandial. The result of this investigation can be used to evaluate clinical progression of acute and chronic liver disease.
