Factors Affecting the Intelligence of Pre-school Children (Faktor-faktor yang Mempengaruhi Kecerdasan Anak Prasekolah)
The objective of the study is to identify the internal and external factors affecting the intelligence of pre-school children. The study was carried out in Pasar Minggu district, southern Jakarta, from July to September 1993. The samples were 60 pre-school children, age 2 to years old, of Javanese and West Sumateranese migrant families. The study found that nutrition status of children had a positive effect on their intelligence. The external factors which had an effect to the children's intelligence were : parent-child relationship, education of mother, and socio-culture background. All those factors had a positive impact on the children's intelligence. The Stanford-Binet IQ performance of Javanese children were higher than those of West Sumateranese children. The economical and physical environment had no a direct impact on children's intelligence. These factors had a positive correlation with parent-child relationship and nutritional status of children.
