The Link between Bovine Tuberculosis and Tuberculosis Status on Dairy Cattle Workers (Hubungan antara Tuberkulosis Sapi Perah dan Status Tuberkolosis Pekerja Perusahaan Susu)
An epidemiological study to elucidate the link between bovine tuberculosis and tuberculosis status of dairy cattle workers has been undertaken in July to October, 1994 covering three provinces of Java, namely Central Java (the regencies of Boyolali, Semarang and Semarang City), Yogyakarta (the regencies of Bantul, Sleman and Yogyakarta) and West Java (the regencies of Bandung and Sukabumi). A total of 44 sputum specimens of suspected TB patients representing 13 Puskesmas of those provinces were collected and brought to Balitvet laboratory. Three isolates of them yielded Mycobacteria groups and were identified as M. tuberculasis, the agent of human tuberculosis. Wilst, there was only one Mycobacterium isolate of total 26 dairy farmer sputums of those provincies and latter it was then identified as M. fallax. Due to limited specimens collected throughout the survey, the link between bovine TB of cattle and human TB of dairy workers was not conclusive yet.
