Faktor-faktor yang Berhubungan dengan Perilaku Masyarakat dalam Mencegah Penularan Schistosomiasis di Dua Desa di Dataran Tinggi Napu Kapupaten Poso, Sulawesi Tengah Tahun 2010
Schistosomiasis control programs have been done since 1974. However, the prevalence of schistosomiasis is still high with 4.78% in 2010 and it will continuosly increase if the control programs are not conducted. The success of a disease control programs depends on the participation/behavior of the community in supporting the program.
The aim of this study was to describe the community behavior to prevent the transmission of schistosomiasis and to identify the relationship between educational level, occupation, knowledge, and community behavior in prevention of schistosomiasis.
This study was carried out in Mekarsari and Dodolo villages from June to November 2010. The sample of this cross-sectional study was the head of household that randomly selected from the population. Data were collected through interview with structured questionnaire and field observation.
The results showed that most of the people in Mekarsari and Dodolo did not have adequate behavior in schistosomiasis prevention. From all variables, only occupation was found related to schistosomiasis (p=0.013). Therefore, schistosomiasis prevention programs need to be informed to all people, from all occupation, educational level, and knowledge level. As good behavior not only depends on knowledge, other factors that related to behavior, such as environment, social-economy, and culture need to be studied.
