Pendekatan Molekuler Konfirmasi Vektor Japanese Encephalitis (Je) Di Kota Surabaya Jawa Timur (Molecular Approach on Japanese Encephalitis (Je) Vector Confirmation In Surabaya East Java )
The suspect cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) from Surabaya City and Jombang regency was reported remain high with 39 people died, 30 defects, 39 sick and 66 healthy. Due to the reason, it is important to conduct a confirmation of JE vectors that take an important role in Surabaya.
A study on the confirmation of Culex sp mosquito as the vector of JE have been conducted in Surabaya by the aim to reveal the specific species of JE vectors. The confirmation of JE vectors was carried out using (a molecular methods) Reverse Transcryption-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) in Molecular Biology Laboratory Eijkman Institute Jakarta.
The sampling of mosquitoes and larva survey were conducted in the area where suspected JE cases stayed which were Sidotopo Wetan, Kenjeran Subdistrict and Kedurus Village, Karang Pilang District Surabaya.
The Culex sp species that have been collected were Culex tritaeniorhynchus, Culex quinquefasciatus, Culex bitaeniorhynchus, Culex gelidus and Culex vishnui. All the mosquitoes suspected as JE vectors were tested using RT-PCR method. By this method, the result showed only Cx. tritaeniorhynchus was positive JE virus. Based on these results we conclude that Cx. tritaeniorhynchus is the vector of JE in those areas, so that it can be useful as information for the program to perform a control or prevention further spread of JE in both areas.
