Pengendalian Vektor Demam Berdarah Dengue pada Komunitas Sekolah Dasar di Kecamatan Tembalang, Kota Semarang (Dengue Vector Control Behavior in Primary School Community in Tembalang District, Semarang City)
Tembalang district was a Dengue endemic area in Semarang City that had a highest incidence rate of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in 2010. Aedes vector control behavior was still low. School community’s vector control behavior played a role in dengue prevention programs in schools. The purpose of the study was to identify knowledge, attitude and behavior of dengue vector control in primary school community.
This study used across sectional design. Samples were 107 primary school teachers and janitors in Tembalang District, Semarang City in 2011. Sampel was choosed with proportional random sampling method. Data were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed descriptively (univariat analysis).
Results showed that school community awareness in dengue transmission was low because respondents did not know about secondary infection of DHF and the existence of Aedes mosquito that perceived unserious in community. Respondents did not feel as risk population because dengue was understood as a disease that attacked school children rather than adults. The effectiveness of mosquito nest eradication (PSN) for vector control activity in Tembalang District did not have positive response from school community. Vector control and biting prevention in school environment were need improvement. This study recommended health promotion to DHF infection, mosquito nest eradication activities, and DHF vector behavior for teacher and janitors
