Analisis Faktor Keberhasilan Praktik Pemberian ASI Eksklusif di Tempat Kerja pada Buruh Industri Tekstil di Jakarta
Exclusive breastfeeding is related to several potential factors, such as mother working status. Mothers who are worker, particularly in industrial sector are more likely not to exclusively breastfeed their child. Non-availability of breastfeeding facility in the workplace, types of work, working condition and implementation of reproductive rights were a number of factors that increase the risk of breastfeeding disorders among labor workers.
This study aim ed to explore factors towards successful practices of exclusive breastfeeding in the workplace among textile industry workers in Jakarta, related to availability of breastfeeding right and facility. A qualitative study was conducted towards 27 informants working at a textile industry in Jakarta and having a baby older than 6 months to 12 months.
Data was collected by Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Triangulation of data was obtained by in-depth interview to several resources such as midwife at the clinic company and the company supervisor.
Only a few informants who successful exclusively breastfeed their children (n=2), while others failed. Knowledge of how to store breast milk and breastfeed in the workplace, availability of breastfeeding facility, as well as support from company supervisor are a number of predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors to the successful practice of exclusive breastfeeding. Role of health attendant and supervisor at the workplace through counseling, entitlements to breastfeeding and provision of adequate breastfeeding facilities are very important in order to support exclusive breastfeeding among labor workers.
