ABSTRACT.
Malocclusion in the form of irregular tooth position and jaw discrepancy can complicate to have a good oral hygiene condition and will lead to the accumulation ofplaque that can eventually lead to caries and periodontitis. Aesthetically smile and face depends on the harmonize between form and potation of teeth, speech function, and mastication. Malocclusion is not always be revealed but can be caused by bad habits, such as thumb sucking mouth breathing, and tongue trust. Bad habits as the cause of malocclusion is influenced by predisposing factor steels as the level of knowledge of their parents. The general aim of this study was to know the correlation between the level of parent's knowledge with the malocclusion severity index due to bad habit in students at Sekolah Dasar Santo Yoseph 1 Denpasar in 2013. This study design was cross-sectional with 24 students for sample who have malocclusion due to the bad habits and 24 their parents each carried out with propotional random sampling. The result of this study was analyzed with univariate and bivariate by Spearman Correlation test.
The result of this study showed that the percentage of the student:, parents in Sekolah Dasar Santo Yoseph I Denpasar with malocclusion due to bad habits that have good of knowledge level was the most that was 45.8 % and there no parents who have failed of knowledge levet The percentage of students of Sekolah Dasar Santo Yoseph 1 Denpasar who have maioccusion severe index was very severe was the most that was 62,6 % and no students who has the severity malocclusion with ideal criteria. There is no correlation between the level parent's knowledge with the malocclusion severity index of the students in Sekolah Darer Santo Yoseph Denpasar.
