ABSTRACT
Ecosystems have the value of benefits through its functions. Environmental Services is a product of the ecosystem. Forest conversion activities such as coal mining caused the lost of forest vegetation and the release of carbon into the air and can cause loss of forest functions, and the impact of the loss of ecosystem services and environmental benefits for the community. The continued impact that arises is the health problems and external community cost, especially those living around coal mining. The effects are negative externalities of mining activities on the community.
This research conducted at PTBA Tanjung Enim in 2011 the survey aims to identify the type of health problems and the efforts made to address the health problems experienced by the community as well as costs incurred to cope with the disorder. The study found the presence of various types of public health problems, and Upper Respiratory Track Infection (URTI) is a kind of health problems experienced by most people. External costs of community health on average per respondent and who live around TAL PTBA coal mining is Rp 20,794,-.
The results indicate disturbances and community health costs incurred as a negative externality of coal mining activity on the communities living around the TAL PTBA become a renewal of the novelty of this study, it can be used by governments, stakeholders, and mining investors to determine the type of disturbance of community health and the cost of community arise as negative externalities of open coal mining activities.
