ABSTRACT
Imminent abortion is when a woman might be losing her baby during the first half of pregnancy; is the commonest complication in pregnancy and is a serious emotional burden for women. It has increased risk of miscarriage, preterm delivery, low birthweight, perinatal death, antepartum haemorrhage and premature rupture of the membrane, however the risk of a malformed surviving infant does not appear to be increased. Management of imminent abortion is mostly empirical. Bed rest is routinely recommended, about a third of women with imminent abortion are prescribed drugs although two thirds of general practitioners recommending this do not sure on its efficacy. This review present available evidence on prevention, evaluation and management of imminent abortion, focusing mainly on the first trimester of pregnancy. Nur Ilhaini Sucipto.
