Faktor Risiko Infeksi Ascaris Lumbricoides pada Anak Sekolah Dasar di Kota Palu (Risk Factors of Ascaris Lumbricoides Infection in Elementary School Children in Palu Municipality)
Ascariasis is caused by infection of Ascaris lumbricoides. This worm can be [aunded in all age group, esaecialty in elementary school children. Number ofworm disease cases is influenced by personal hygine and enviromental sanitation. The aim of th is study was to determine the riskfactorsof Ascaris lumbricoides amonq school children.
Cross-sectional study was conducted among 288 elementery school children aged 7 to 13 years which were selected from 7 schools. Structured questionnaire was used to identify socio- demographic and behaviorat factors. Stool specimens were examined using direct method. Data entry and analysis were done using Stata. The results showed that prevalence of intestinal worms was 31.25% with most of the infection caused by A. lumbricoides (28.12%). Loqistic reqression analysis showed siqnificant relationship between hand washing with soap before eating with infection of Ascar;s lumbricoides (OR :::: 2Al, 95% CI: 1,07-5,42, p-value= 0, 033).
Ascariasis in elementary school children was considerably high in Palu Mancipality. Therefore preventive acttons in school are needed ,for instance provide soap, particuiary in toilet: and pu tposters on how to clean hands in school.
