Efikasi Iodium Dosis Rendah Ditambah Beta Karoten Pada Ibu Hamil Terhadap Tsh Neonatal di Daerah Endemik Gaki (Efficacy of Iodine Low Dose Plus Beta Carotene onTSH Neonatalof Pregnant Women in IDD Endemic Area)
ABSTRACT
Pregnant women suffering from Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) have higher risk for delivering baby with congenital hypothyroid. At present program to alleviate IDD using iodized salt and iodized oil capsules (high dose) was no longer use for pregnant women in endemic area. The objectives of this study is to examine the efficacy of low dose iodine plus beta carotene on the improvement level of TSH neonatal.
The study areas was at six health centres in Magelang Regency. This is a quasi experimentstudy with first trimester non hyperthyroid pregnant women. as the subjects. They were divided into three intervention groups: high dose group (200 mg iodine), low dose (30 mg iodine) and low dose plus beta carotene (30 mg iodine plus 30 mg beta-carotene).Each dose given in the form of capsules and taken as supplement for six months during pregnancy. Data collected were TSH, Free T4 and vitamin A serum, hemoglobin, social economy; mid upper arm circumference, nutrient intake, cyanide intake and IDD knowledge, and from the baby was TSH blood spot. Data was analyzed using anova, chi square test and logistic regression.
The result of the study showed that after six months intervension, level of TSH serum of postpartum women from low dose plus beta carotene group, low and high dose group reduced about 1,74 pg/L; 1,59 pg/L and 1,39 pg/, respectivelly. Pregnant women receiving low dose iodine plus beta carotene had significantly lower risk to have baby with abnormal TSH blood spot level compared to pregnant women receiving high dose iodine (p
