Efek Pemberian Fraksi Ekstral Etanol Daun Sirih (Piper betle L.) pada Penurunan Nafsu Makan clan Berat Badan Tikus Wistar Jantan { The Effect of Water Fraction of Piper Bette L. Leave Ethanol Extract in Desereasing Appetite and Body Weight of Male Wistar Rat}

The study of the water fraction of Piper bade L. leave ethanol extract activity to decrease appetite and body weight in male Wistar rats have been conducted. In this study, 25 males Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) were divided into 5 groups (negative control group - K(-); 3 test groups- Fl, F2, F3, and positive control group- P). The K(-) was treated 3% of PGA; F1, F2, F3 were treated by water fraction of Piper betle L. leave ethanol extract of 300, 450, and 600 mg/kgBW dose, respectively; and P was treated by orlistat of 10.8 mg/kgBW of dose. Treatments were administered orally for 7 consecutive days, given once daily, before analysis. The left amount of food and body weight (SW) were measured and recorded daily. The results indicated that F1, F2, and F3 were capable of lowering the appetite and BW of male Wistar rats compared to K(-). The mean difference of food amount decreasing level was 3.4 g (F1.); 3.8 g (F2), and 4.2 g (F3). The decreased level of food amount was equivalent to the decreased level that was performed by P (4.2 g). On the other hand, the BW of F1; F2, and F3 showed the mean difference of weigh,t loss at 14.6 g; 20.8 g; and 26.6 g, respectively. The difference of weight loss that was performed by F3 showed similar value to the weight loss performed by orlistat (P), 28.6 g. This study indicated that water fraction of Piper betle L. ethanol extract effective to decrease the amount of food and body weight of male Wistar rats of 300, 400, and 600 mg/kgBW of dose when given orally. The coefficient correlation analysis indicated no linear relationship between increasing
dose with decreasing appetite and BW in Wistar rats.
