Pengaruh Peningkatan Konsentrasi Gelatin Sebagai Bahan PengikatTerhadap Kekerasan dan Kerapuhan Tablet Kunyah Jahe Merah (Zingiber officinale Rosc. Var. Sunti Valeton){The Effect of increasing Concentrastion of gelatin As the binding Agent for the Hardness and Friability of Chewable Red Ginger Tablet}
ABSTRACT
Red ginger as one of traditional medicinal plants is widely used for rheumatism, cough, nausea, and cold. The development of red ginger in chewable tablet form is needed to increase the use of red ginger as a traditional medicine, because its use would be more practical and can provide a sense of warmth in the mouth and throat. Gelatine is widely used as a binder in various tablet form and it is also expected to be used in red ginger chewable tablet. This study aims at examining the effect of increasing concentrations of gelatine to increase hardness and friability of chewable tablet Chewable tablets are made in the following 5 formula, Formula 1 which is the control formula without the red ginger extract, Formula 2, 3, 4 and 5 with the concentration of gelatine of 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30% respectively. From hardness test showed that the hardness of chewable tablets of each successive formula was 3.84, 5.03, 5.77, 6.88 and 7.64 kg/cm2. The friability of each formula is 0.68, 0.47, 0.39, 0.32 and 0.23% respectively. It was concluded that increasing concentrations of gelatine can improve the hardness and reduce the friability of red ginger chewable tablets.
