Hubungan Pendidhcan Formal, Pengetahuan Ibu dan Sosial Ekonomi terhadap Infeksi Soil Transmitted Helminths pada Anak Sekolah Dasar Di Kecamatan Seluma Timur Kabupaten Seluma Bengkulu (Relationship of Formal Education, Mother Knowledge and Socioeconomic towards Soil Transmitted Helminths Infections among Elementary School Children of East Seluma SubDistrict, Seluma, Bengkulu)
Helminthiasis, a disease caused by worms or helminth, is one of Neglected Infectious Diseases (NID) that can affect child health, nutrition, intelligence and productivity. Among the risk factors of helminthiasis are sanitation, hygiene, education and socio-economic levels, knowledge, attitude, behavior and geographical conditions. Helminthiasis survey on elementary scholl in East Seluma Sub District Bengkulu has never been unducted before. This study The aim of this study is to determine the association of formal education, mother knowledge and socio-economic level towards Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH) infections in Elementary School children of East Seluma Sub-District, Seluma, Bengkulu. This study was designed as non-experimental, cross-sectional study. Subjects were students of 5th and 6th grades of four elementary schools in East Seluma Sub-District. One hundred and eighty samples of children stools were collected, as determined by simple random sampling technique. Stool examination was conducted by Kato Katz method. Data were analyzed by using t-test. This study found significant association between mother knowledge and STH infections of elementary school children of East Seluma SubDistrict (1)=0.00). No significant association was found between either mother's formal education or socioeconomic level and STH infections of the same subjects (p=0.70 and p=0.06, respectively). Based on the result of this study, educate mothers to increase their knowledge will be a useful tool to reduce the STH infections among the school children.
