Gambaran Beban Caregiver Penderita Skizofrenia di Poliklinik Rawat Jalan RSJ Amino Gondohutomo Semarang (The Burden of Schizophrenia Caregiver at the Ambulatory Clinic in Amino Gondohutomo Regional Mental Hospital Semarang)
Background : Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder with chronic developmental and causes deterioration. People with schizophrenia have obviously extent disability of daily function, so they need help and assistance from others (caregiver/carer) for their daily needs. This role will lead to an increase in the consequences, which ultimately willlead to the burden of care for the family. The aim of the study is to describe the burden of caregivers who nurse patients with schizophrenia by using the Indonesian version of Burden Assessment Schedule (BAS) instrument and knowing the most influential components of the caring burden.
Methods : A descriptive study of 100 caregivers who nurse patients with more than 2 years in third class outpatient clinic and patients using Jamkesmas (Public health insurance for the poor) in Regional Mental Hospital Amino Gondohutomo Semarang. Respondents were interviewed with structured questionnaires BAS Indonesian version.
Results: The range of BAS's score was in between 18 to 40, with a mean score of 26.41. A total of 89 respondents (89%) felt burdened by the condition of the patient. The most responsible caregiver burdenwere as followed: the impact on well being, perceived severity of the disease, the impact on relationswith others, appreciation for caring role and impact on marital relationships.
Conclusion : The majority of caregivers considered to take care of family members with schizophrenia as aburden and the most responsible component was the impact on well being.
