Pengaruh Kombinasi Vitamin C dan E Dosis Tinggi Terhadap Sistem Hemopoetik Penderita Kanker Kepala dan Leher yang Mendapat Kemoterapi Cisplatin (The Effect of High Dose Vitamin C and E to Hemopoetic System of Head and Neck Cancer Patients Treated by Cisplatin)
Background: Cispiatin can cause suppress of hemopoetic system because of ROS in head and neck cancer patients. Combination of high dose vitamin C and E as outside antioxidant was required to neutralize ROS. The objective of the study was to prove that combination of high dose vitamin C and E could improve the suppression of hemopoetic system induced by cispiatin in head and neck cancer patients.
Methods: Pre post test design. Subjects met the inclusion criteria at Ear Nose Throat Head and Neck (ENT-HN) ambulatory clinic and ward of Dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang was block randomized then divided into two groups; treatment group (vitamin C 1000 mg and E 400 mg) and control group (vitamin C 2 x 50 mg) for 5 weeks. Data were analyzed with chi-square, paired t test and independent t test.
Results : Forty eight subjects met inclusion criteria, most aged 5D-59 (35.6%) years, men and women 3 : 1; thirty-two (71.1%) with nasopharing carcinoma, 27 (60%) stage IV. The decreased of hemoglobin and leucocytes were significant differences between two groups (p < 0.05), meanwhile the decreased of erythrocytes and platelets were no significant differences (p > 0.05).
Conclusion : Combination of high dose vitamin C and E could improve the hemoglobin and leucocytes induced by cispiatin in head and neck cancer patients.
