Stress pada Penderita Diabetes Mellitus Tipe-2 dalam Melaksanakan Program Diet di Klinik Penyakit Dalam RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang (The occurence of stress in type-2 diabetes mellitus patients undergone dietetic counselling in internal medicine clinic Dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang
Background : Diet intervention is one of the most important intervention in the success of diabetes treatment. Discipline and obedience of the patients to the recommended diet is necessary to maintain the normal blood sugar level as well as prevent the complication. However the length of time required of the diet program may cause stress to the patients. The aim of the study was to identifythe occurence of stress on type 2 DM patients who were on diet program and how to cope the stress.
Methods : This study used a qualitative research strategy with phenomenology approach. The problem analysis was conducted in point ofviews or multi perspective. The structured and in-depth inter iew were used as a method to collect data, which was based on int rview guideline.
Results: The resea ch indicated that all six participants involved in the research were i stressed condition during the diet program. The onset and the duration of the stress is determined by various difficulties experienced during the program, especially in dealing with the amount of foods that must be weighed, the limited type offoods, a pattern of eating habits before having diabetes and the duration of diabetes mellitus.
Conclusion : The diabetes mellitus patients are easy to get stress duringthe diet program.
