Hubungan Tipe Tumor dengan Tumor Cachexia Syndrome pada Anak (Relationship between the Type of Tumor and “Tumor Cachexia Syndrome” in Children
Background: Tumor cachexia syndrome (TCS) is a common clinical problem that impacts upon the quality of life and survival of cancer patients. The prevalence of TCS is 24% of early stadium and more than 70% at late stadium. It is characterized by anorexia, weight loss, proteolysis, decrease in muscIe mass and adipose tissue and associated with type of tumor. The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between type of tumor and tumor cachexia syndrome in children.
Methods : Cohort retrospective study conducted based on medical records of children with malignancy hospitalized at Dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang from January 2007 to June 2010. The inclusion criteria were the completely medical records contains of age, anthropometry measurement {weight, height, mid-upper arm circumference/MUAC}, type of tumor, and albumin serum. who fulfilled inclusion criteria and admitted in Dr. Kariadi Hospital, Semarang,. We investigated the type of tumor, nutritional status {Z-score}, and tumor cachexia syndrome which categorized as cachexia, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) below -2 SD WHO standard and hypoalbuminemia (< 2.5 gr/dl). Statistical analysis used Chi square.
Results : From 351 children with malignancy only 79 medical record were completed, 49 with leukemia and 33 with solid tumor. From 46 leukemia children, 52.2% got hypoalbuminemia and 45.7% had MUAC
