Gambaran Kualitas Hidup Pasien Kanker Pediatrik Usia Sekolah
Having high quality of life is a challenge for school-age children (6-12 years old) who suffer from cancer. They have to undergo cancer treatments that bring pain and negative side-effects for years Repeated hospitalization also separates them from family and school, the essential contexts in school-age children development. By using qualitative approach with interview and observation, this research intended to get quality of life description in five school-age children who were under going cancer treatments.
The result shows that the subject who had the most severe side effects from cancer treatments could also have good quality of life in physical, psychological, social, and cognitive dimension. This research suggests volunteers and medical staffs to give chances for pediatric patients to study and interact in their room in the hospital and provide more psychological therapy schedule to help the children to cope with negative emotion they experience during the treatment.
