Endometriosis Kolon Lesi Jinak Yang Sering Disangka Ganas (Colonic Endometriosis, a benign lesion that frequently misinterpreted as malignan)
Endometriosis is a term used to describe the presence of functioning endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity and musculature. Endometriosis is estimated to affect 5-10% women of reproductive age but there are some cases reported as endometriosis in postmenopausal women. Endometriosis is classified as pelvic and extrapelvic endo-metriosis. The majority of extrapelvic endometriosis is found in the rectum and sigmoid colon. Colonic endometriosis is generally asymptomatic, if there are symptoms are usually gastrointestinal symptoms which include rectal bleeding, constipation, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Diagnosis of colonic endometriosis is difficult, because endometriosis usually involves outer walls of the colon such as serosai or submucosal layer. It is rare to penetrate mucosal layer, so th at in barium ene ma examination, and colonoscopy, endometriosis is often suspected as colonic malignancy. There are other investigations such as MRI, CT-Scan, Rectal endoscopic sonography (RES), dan transvaginal ultrasonography (TVUS). Although it is still a controversy it still helpful to establish preoperative diagnosis of endometriosis. Definitive diagnosis of endometriosis can be made the histopathological examination found endometrial tissue either from biopsy or surgery. Therapies that are commonly performed are segmental or discoid colon resection via laparoscopy and hormo¬nal therapy to threat and prevent recurrence.
