Hubungan Antara Konsumsi Garam Berlebih Dengan Hipertensi Tidak Terkendali Pada Pasien Hipertensi Berusia Minimal 20 Tahun (Association of high salt intake and uncontrolled blood pressure among minimal 20 years old hypertension patients)
Hypertension is among ten most occurring diseases in Srengseng District Public Health Centre, West Jakarta and its prevalence doubled in the year 2008. Preliminary survey found that uncontrolled hypertensive patients often have salt over-consumption. Thus the objective of this study was to determine whether over-consumption of salt is associated with uncontrolled hypertension. This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on 68 hypertensive patients ag ed 20 years or above visiting the general clinic. Data collection used a non-random purposive sampling method, by using an interview of 24 hour dietary recall questionnaire and blood pressure measurement. Data analysis by using Chi-Square test and calculating risk by using Prevalence Ratio. Out of 35 patients with over-consumption of salt, 29 (82.86%) had uncontrolled hypertension whereas only 16 patients out of 33 (48.48%) with normal salt consumption had uncontrolled hypertension.
