Makna Makan Menurut Budaya Jawa Pada Pasien Kanker Di Wilayah Kota Surabaya/
At the meaning associated with a velY varied culture, among others: filling, improving health and healing, prevent iIlness, expressing concem for others, strengthen social ties, the expression of thanks or appreciation, wealth or social status. The purpose of this study was to determine the meaning of eating according to Javanese culture in cancer patients in the city of Surabaya. The method used was a qualitative phenomenological approach using in-depth interview technique (depth interview). Informants are residents of Surabaya who resi des in the city of Surabaya at least 18 yeers, The number of informants 12 were composed of 8 members of cancer patients either already declared cured and those still in the process of treatment and 4 people instead of patients.
The results were analyzed qualitatively by directly quoting the answers of informants include the theme of eating behaviors, perceptions of food and type of food. Conclusions obtained by means eating according to Javanese culture in cancer patients is to speed up healing and maintain health, frequency of eating at least 3 times a day, cooked their own food to avoid the use of flavoring and preservatives. Increase vegetables, especially broccoli, cemxs, tomatoes and fruits, especiallyapples, soursop, green banana, guava, dates and red fruit. Avoid papaya, mango, pineapple and gr apes as well as side dishes that come from the animal. sestdes it is necessalY to consume boiled water soursop leaves, cassava devils, tubers or polo pendem, rodent tuber, white turmeric, black cum in, parasites, leaves of gold dragons, leaves continued life, god peta ls, leaves and fruit binahong, ginger.
Suggestions can be submitted nurses need to use a transcultural approach in providing information to the public to consume food that is not harmful to their health and need further research on the types of foods that can help cure cancer, especially of foods mentioned informants in this study.
