Efek Sitotoksik dan AntiproliferatifEkstrak Propolis terhadap Kultur Sel HeLa Melalui Penghambatan Aktifitas NFKB (Cytotoxic.and Antiproliferative Effects of Propolis Extract to HeLa Cells Culture Through Acitivity Inhibition of NFKB)

The prevalence of cancer show a tendency of increase every year. Propolis has active compound that act as a pro-apoptotic and antiproliferative agent to cancer cells, which most of cancer cells are usually deffect on regulation of both processes. However, until now the cytotoxic effect of local propolis hasn't been explored and investigated. The aim ofthis study is to identify the potency of local propolis as a cytotoxic agent to cancer cells. By using several concentration ofpropolis extract (5, 10,25,50 and 100 µg/mL.) to treat HeLa celllines with serial incubation time (6, 24 and 48 hours) and then the cytotoxic and antiproliferative effects were observed by using tripan blue dye exclusion and direct counting using haemocytometer. The activity of caspase-3 and the level of NFKB in the nucleus were observed by using ELISA protocol. The result shows that local Propolis extract has activity to induce cell death, inhibit the proliferation of HeLa cells, increase caspase-3 activity and inhibit the translocation of NFkB to the nucleus.
