Evaluation of Malaria Control by Community Participation in Robek, Manggarai, Nusa Tenggara Timur (Penanggulangan Malaria melalui Peran Serta Masyarakat di Robek, Manggarai, Nusa Tenggara Timur)
Community-based action can support health center programmes in reducing malaria morbidity and mortality and the improvement of health status. Robek was selected as a study site for evaluation of malaria control program through community participation which had been carried out since 1984. The various interventions involving community participation were applied as follows : case finding and malaria treatment, health education and vector control. This active community involvement could reduce the parasite rate of children ages 2-9 years old from 15.5 percent in 1984 to 3.8 percent in 1990. It has also improved the health status; anemia decreased from 20.5 percent to 9.3 percent and undernutrition of children 2-9 years, decreased from 22.4 percent to 13.0 percent in 1985.
