Dependent variables, nutritional status of children with chronic and acute. Independent variables, parental characteristics, health utilization, health environment. Energy and protein consumption levels. To examines the relationship between acute and chronic nutritional status with characteristic factors for underfive children in rural and urban areas. Sample analysis of 10.231, sample urban 5.405 and rural areas 4.826. Variables associated with chronic nutritional status in urban areas occupation parents, education parents, economic parents' status and parental height. In the rural areas are: Occupation parents, parental education, parents' economic status, parental height, utilization of health services, and adequacy of protein energy. Variables related to acute nutritional status of children in urban areas, 'education parents, economic parents' status, utilization of health services, parental height level of adequacy of energy and protein consumption. In the rural areas are: parental height. Conclusion: The most associated factors with chronic nutritional status in urban and rural areas is the economic level. Whereas, with acute nutritional status in urban area is the economic level, but in rural area, is the parental-height.
